Great update to iHome
»
This is a great update to the iHome alarm clock and speakers for the iPod or iPhone. The sound is great from the speakers, the FM radio does pretty well for a small radio, the brightness of the display has a good selection of brightness levels from bright to off. This was a good update from the older iHome as now I can sleep with it facing me.

Works great with an iPod Touch
»
I don't use an iPhone with this, but with the Touch it works great. I have my Touch in a slim case and it fits snugly in the cradle. The speakers have good sound for a clock radio (much better than the iHome versions made for iPod only). The dual alarm system is nice, and the whole system feels like it was put together well and with good materials. Can't say the same for a lot of the crap I compared it to when shopping around. The numerals on the clock are big enough for geezers like me who wear glasses - as I can read the time at night without them. The clock illumination can be too bright at night, but all you have to do is tap the snooze bar and it dims (4 brightness levels?). For the price and performance, I don't think there is a better deal on the market today.

Exactly what I needed
»
I received the IHome IP99BR about three weeks ago. I've used it as an alarm clock, for charging my Iphone and listening to the ipod portion of the iphone. Every night the iphone charges on the IP99BR. There has been no hint of interference from the iphone. This was my major concern, and other reviewers frankly scared me. But this has not been a problem at all for mine. I am pleased with the sound from this machine. It's not a top line stereo, but it's far better than the typical clock radio. I heartily recommend this device.

Nice design, Poorly Exectued
»
I bought the iHome ip99 from Amazon originally. Upon receipt I could not set the clock as the "Clock Set" button on the back was broken. Rather than pay for shipping over and over, I returned it and bought one locally.
The second one worked great..... for two days. Now it refuses to play anything out of my iPhone/iPod.
One other annoying issue is the lack of separate volume control for the radio/iPod/and buzzer sounds. The buzzer is much quieter than the iPod or radio, so the volume required to be woken up by the buzzer is much higher than the others and music will blast you off the bed when turned on. Perhaps that's a good thing?
The remote is nice, too bad it barely works. You have to press the buttons quite hard. I haven't been able to get a few of the buttons to work at all.
Other notes: It is very easy to read the display and the adjustable dimmer is nice. It sounds pretty good considering the price. It's a little large, but not overwhelmingly. The radio tuner picks up my local FM stations very well and is clear. I did not try AM reception. iPhone/Ipod playback is clear and sounds good. The clock is mostly shielded from iPhone interference, when the radio plays there is a bit of noise coming from speakers, but it's not horrible.
This could be an excellent product if they'd iron out the problems. After purchase I've found that many people have had the iPod-no-longer-working issue, according to online reviews. I'll be returning for refund next week.

Good product with a couple of design flaws
»
Overall, this is a pretty good iPhone dock. I use this almost exclusively with my iPhone 3G,and so far it's done a good job. As an alarm clock, it's very full-featured, which is a great set of features. The sound out of it is far beyond most alarm clocks, but not quite up to the quality of some of the more expensive docks.
The remote works pretty well, although you kind of wish it could do a little more. It can really only handle the iPod functions. It would be great if it could control other apps, like Pandora for instance. Probably a limitation of the iPhone interface.
The GSM shielding works pretty well, I haven't heard any of the static I hear with other products.
Two big downsides for me which is why it gets 3 stars:
- When I plug my iPhone in, it says that this accessory is not meant for use with the iPhone, and asks about turning on airplane mode. You can just say no, but it's really irritating for it to come up all the time.
- Like all the other iHome products, the only thing holding the iPhone is the dock connector. This really has been fine for other iPods, but there are times I need to touch the top of the iPhone (say, when controlling Pandora) and the lack of any back support on the iPhone is really disturbing. There really should be more supporting it.
Overall, if you need an expensive alarm clock that will control your iPod's, it's a great product.
