The old English carol receives a complete makeover on this holiday dinnerware from Rosanna. A leggy dancer in the mode of Ginger Rogers, the Eiffel Tower, and such modern colors as lime green and turquoise transform these 12 small appetizer plates into works of contemporary art. Each of the dozen is different, with numbers, words, and graphics scattered across each plate willy-nilly, as if stamped on the white background by an enthusiastic child. Indeed, children will love pointing out the Scottie dog, swans, rocking horse, and other amusing 'characters.' Made of refined porcelain in a squared, scalloped shape, the six-inch plates are trimmed with 24-carat gold for holiday elegance. These appetizer-size dishes may also serve as side salad or dessert plates in conjunction with the 12 Days Of Christmas dinner plates, each of which is identical. The 12 numbers and graphics covering the borders help jog the memory as to how many maids a-milking and lords a-leaping the verses contain, so that guests might just break into song. Totally endearing, the dinnerware sets make very popular gifts and come in equally festive gift boxes. A little care will ensure these plates become heirlooms; because of the gold trim, microwave use should be avoided and washing by hand is recommended. --Ann Bieri
