« Easy to use if you don't do anything unusual... »
Plug your camcorder to it with a DV cable, insert a DVD-R and hit the big red button. You can watch it play (no sound) and it ejects the disk when done. What could be easier? Well... that all only works if you are recording 1 hour of tape. If the tape goes on to more than one disk then you are in trouble until you figure out how to manually record and "finalize" the second disk. Also, if you are not using a DV cable then you have to manually record and finalize as well. To "finalize" a disc you have to hit the menu-arrow-enter keys over 10 times. Also, if you hit the "menu" key they you can no longer hit the "big easy red record button". All this weirdness and poor menu interface is the reason I gave it just 3 stars. It records just fine.

Yes, you can set the "record quality" (which adjusts how many minutes of video can be recorded on the disc) to ensure an entire tape can be transferred to one DVD.

I wish Sony had done some things to make using this a lot more user friendly:

    1) Add a "finalize and eject" button
    2) Make access to the "record quality" menu since I, at least, spend a lot of time switching back and forth.
    3) Handle spanning multiple discs automatically (by allowing me to hit the record button again with the second disc to continue and finalize)

    « Totally Perfect! »
This great little gadget works the first time, all the time, every time. And NO computer is required. Can you imagine trying to transfer a VHS tape to DVD with a PC involved! That would never happen. This stand alone unit is the way to go. Oh yes, it is SUPER easy to use.

« A great way to get organized. »
I purchased this unit a month ago and I'm very pleased with it. At last I have an easy way to transfer my old VHS tapes to DVD. It's also a snap to turn digital photo's from your camera's memory card into a slide show on DVD. This product does everything they say it will do! I highly recommend it.

The product appears to be the device that I was expecting to receive, but I have not had the chance to use it and verify quality. I plan to do so in the very near future.

    « Wrong Expectations »
I bought this product with high expectations. I am a Sony afficianado (Sony Everything) and will not apologize for it. This product disappoints mainly because
    - It chops off the top and the bottom portions of the video from a MiniDV (transfered using a iLink cable). my 4:3 video will look like a 16:9 but I lose picture!! Close upshots lose the forehead and chin while long shots lose the picturesque mountain peaks.
    - Video quality using a Sony camcorder supplied A/V cable (Red, White, Yellow) was very bad.
I am returning mine and will wait for another product.
