Along with natural variations in color, an oven-heating process caramelizes the natural sugars in the bamboo and produces the warm honey tone of the box. And, because it's harder than wood, bamboo won't absorb water, crack, or peel, and can be sanded if need be. I was very pleased with the look and feel of this salt box. I purchased it as a gift, and am quite confident that no matter what the individual chooses to store in the double boxes, whether it is salt, herbs or jewelry, they will be in use for a long time.

I bought this as a Christmas gift for other flavored salts as we already ownd the large Bamboo salt box. The space may be a little small to fit a container of salt in it, but will still be good to use next to the stove for quick access. I have to wait until then to be sure.

Love The Salt Box!

I searched a long time to find a salt box to suit my needs. I wanted a box to keep my sea salt & freshly ground pepper close at hand while cooking. I had been just keeping them in open ceramic bowls on the counter, which is not the best. However, this box is terrific! It keeps both in easy reach and the compact design doesn't take up too much space on the counter. And it is also important that it is made of bamboo, a product which is good for the environment! I highly recommend this product.

This is an excellent salt box that will hold two different types of salt. It is large enough for good-sized hands to use efficiently. The wood is very smooth and attractive, and the price makes this a real bargain! This would be a great gift for people who are interested in all types of different salt.
