« substandard product received twice-Amazon send no more »
I ordered the Zen tea kettle/Caribean. I received in timely manner but had to return two kettles that were defective: chipped enamel, black marks, bubbled inside. Amazon would not ship me a third. I wonder if Amazon is selling seconds? I called Le Crueset and they said there shouldn't have been any defects. Very unsatisfied that Amazon could not ship a quality product. Are they going to re-ship the defects to another unsuspecting customer?

    « Beautiful Design »
A few years ago while watching a Friends show I noticed a teakettle on the stove and thought it might be interesting to own a red teakettle after years of making tea in my coffee maker.

The result is a more pleasant and comforting tea experience. Not only do you drink the tea sooner, it tastes much better when the water is at a full boil. The whistle on this teakettle is amusing and you may have to adjust the temperature to get just the right whistle. Boiling the water too slowly produces a funny "who is that whistling" in my kitchen experience. At full boil, it gets your attention, but is never irritating. If you are really careful, you can remove the whistle and pour the water out immediately, but waiting a few seconds is probably advised.

The handle is very sturdy, unlike other teakettles that swing about as if you were not about to pour boiling water. This one feels very safe and the lid also fits very securely so there is no steam escaping out of the top and the handle never gets warm.

The color is a deeper dark cherry at the base and then it slowly changes to a beautiful cherry red at the top. A truly beautiful addition to your kitchen if you want to spice up your stovetop. This is an item you will want to leave out on the burners even when not in use.

« Product: Awesome, Service: Not Awesome »
I couldn't wait for my new tea kettle to arrive, I drink tea daily and had been suffering along with a broken kettle that burned my fingers and had a broken whistle. When the box finally arrived and I opened it up, the kettle was GORGEOUS. Except for a pencil eraser sized chip in the enamel. There was no return form in the box, and all of the information online instructed me to use the "enclosed easy return form." After some research, I found a customer service email to write to. The response I got was that customer service was really busy, and they were sorry but they'd get back to me in 3-5 days. I had probably 3 email exchanges with this department with 3-5 days in between each. Finally they offered to send me a new one, within 10 business days. Today is the 10th day, let's see if it arrives. So the moral of the story is, I ordered this kettle about a month ago and am still waiting for it. So much for the convenience of ordering online...

« Wonderful Color and Shape »
I saw this teakettle when browsing items on Amazon. It was love at first sight! I waited to purchase it because of the price, and I already had another teakettle.

However, as time went by and my glass teakettle got harder to clean with built up burn marks or grease spots that wouldn't come off, I decided to go get this one before it was sold out.

I was not sorry! I LOVE this teakettle. It looks wonderful in my kitchen, is easy to clean, and has a nice whistle. It's so satisfying to clean the stovetop then place on it this kettle of lovely shape and color.

I hope to have this kettle for many years to come.

« Hardly whistles. Cheap rivet hinges. »
I was surprised and disappointed that something by Le Creuset would be cheaply built. Look closely at the hinges on the handle - they're not small bolts or some other removable/replaceable fastener, they're cheap pop-rivets. The folding action of the handle eventually sheared one off, though the handle is still held in place with the remaining bit that's in the joint.

The whistle isn't attached which means it can get lost. Not only that, but the the kettle doesn't always whistle when the water boils which another reviewer observed might be due to too much water in the kettle. Even when it does whistle, it's barely audible. In any case, the lid does not seal tightly enough. If I push down hard on it while the water is boiling, I cut off the steam leaking from the lid's seam and get more of it moving through the whistle. But what's the point in that?

I agree with the other poster that a kettle that doesn't whistle is dangerous. Look elsewhere.
