A virtually unbreakable polycarbonate carafe makes this coffee press sturdy enough for picnics or camping. To use a French press, grounds are placed in the bottom of the (preheated with hot water, if possible) carafe, then near-boiling water added. The lid with its stainless-steel rod and filter is pushed down after a few minutes of steeping, and the coffee is ready to pour. Many coffee aficionados swear by the French press method. The Hugo features a second mesh screen in the lid that removes even more of the coffee grounds sediment typically left behind by most coffee presses. In addition to the polycarbonate carafe, the Hugo features a rubberized comfort-grip handle and plastic frame, which makes it possible for coffee (or tea) to be reheated in a microwave when the lid and stainless-steel fixtures are removed. The Hugo eight-cup carafe makes about 32 ounces of coffee, which is more like four cups for most coffee drinkers. Awful product, awful customer service

I bought this product approximately 2 months ago and the screen housing is already broken. I first attempted to email the manufacturer via their website, but the "Send" button was mysteriously disabled...from 2 different PCs! Imagine that!
I then attempted to call the 800 number listed on their website, and each time I got to the last selection where I might get an actual person, their system hung up on me.
I'll be replacing this product with a Bodum, which I should have purchased in the first place.

Delicious coffee, Great design

If you are trying to decide between the BonJour and the Bodum French press I have owned both and recommend getting the BonJour, it is a much better design. I have had my BonJour for over 3 years with no issues. The BonJour carafe is made out of unbreakable polycarbonate vs the Bodum which is glass. I broke two Bodum carafe within 6 months before deciding to get the BonJour. I have dropped the BonJour on the floor and it survived. The BonJour also has a fine screen on the pour spout, this is awesome at keeping grounds which escaped from the plunger out of your coffee mug. Last is the nice rubber bottom which keeps it from tipping. The Bodum had 4 metal feet which is less stable.
One last thing, I have seen reviews saying that you cannot separate the screen for cleaning. That is not true. Normally if you clean it within a few days of using all you have to do is rinse it off, maybe a little bit a soap. However once I went on vacation for 2 weeks and when I got home I realized I did not clean the BonJour. It looked like a science experiment, mold was all over the screen. I was able to unclip the plastic and separate the screen and place everything in the dishwasher. Everything came out clean and I was able to put it back together.
I have no complaints about the BonJour, I would recommend it to anyone who wants delicious coffee.

It Broke

This french press worked fine until it broke. A piece of plastic on the plunger broke in less than 1 month of use. Might have been bad luck but be aware. Plan to spend more money on the next one.

After replacing 3 glass carafes...
»
My 92 year old dad kept breaking his glass carafes. After the 3rd one I thought an unbreakable one was a good idea. Works well so far, the nut holding the plunger/strainer together came off, but retightened easily, fortunately it was me that discovered that.

These French Presses are fabulous. The best thing about them is they are made of good quality plastic and are durable. What's not to love?
