Heat-efficient and designed for safety, this Black & Decker Heat Wave heater quickly takes the chill off basements, workshops, outbuildings, and mudrooms. A sturdy but lightweight little unit, the heater has two power settings--750 and 1500 watts--as well as a fan-only setting that blows cool air. A smooth-turning dial lets you adjust heat output or set the unit to Frost Watch so it kicks on automatically if temperatures drop below 40 degrees F. The Heat Wave features cool-touch housing and a large fold-down carrying handle. Two front-mounted roll-over bars keep the grille from touching the floor if the unit tips over. Other safety features include a tip-over switch, power cord protection, motion auto-off, a thermal fuse, an anti-electric shock device, and a PTC controller with manual reset in case of overheating. Power and caution lights let you monitor the heater at a glance. Intended for use on a floor, shelf, or tabletop, the heater is not suitable for use in damp or wet rooms. Measuring 10 by 15 by 8 inches, it comes with a one-year warranty. --Emily Bedard

Absolutely bad.

Unless you sit right next to it, you do not feel any heat whatsoever. Returned it immediately.

Not up to the task

I purchased this unit as a supplemental heat source for a small bedroom. It was unable to warm the room and ran constantly because the heater was never able to reach the temperature necessary for the thermostat to shut it off. It only works if you sit close to it.

Disappointment
»
I saw this space heater and thought it would be perfect. The problem I have with it is that the heat only comes out of a 6 inch area at the top of the heater, but it has a grill that would make you believe that the heat would come out of the whole front of the unit. It does get very warm and has great safety features, but it doesn't give off enough heat to warm people sitting 2 feet from the unit.
