This Yankee Flipper squirrel-proof feeder is the ultimate feeder for keeping your feathered friends fed, and the furred fiends hungry. Let's talk about the basics first. The sturdy polycarbonate feeding chamber is a whopping 4-3/4 inches in diameter and 21 inches long, giving you a break between refills--and ensuring that squirrels can't hang down from the top to reach seed. The four feeding chambers are easily accessible via the perch ring, and the interior of the chamber is designed to direct seed into the seed ports. Now, for the fun stuff: The birdfeeder features an encased motor and rechargeable (and replaceable) batteries. When you receive the feeder, simply charge the batteries overnight, hang the feeder from its looped bail wire, and prepare to be amazed (and entertained!). The motor is connected to the weight activated perch ring--birds will not set it off, even larger species like woodpeckers and cardinals. But the minute a squirrel hops onto the perch, the motor is triggered and the feeder begins spinning, taking the squirrel for a whirl before it loses its grip and is thrown (gently) from the perch. It's a humanitarian way to deal with persistent squirrels--there are no shocks or poisons to hurt them, simply a wild ride that they won't be inclined to repeat. Birds are free to eat without disruption, and your family will get a kick out of watching squirrels go for their rides. There's a lifetime warranty on the feeder body and a one-year warranty on the motor and battery charger. --Ariel Meadow Stallings

Great Bird Feeder

We've never had so many birds before! Watching the occasional squirrel go for a ride is fun too.

It's almost perfect!

It's a wonderful product and I recommend it! The squirrels learned very quickly. Although I wanted to squirrels off the bird feeder, I do put their food (sunflower seeds, dried corn) on the ground - so that helped them keep focused off the feeder.
There are some drawbacks for the Yankee Flipper: 1. It's very hard to remove the lid to pour the food in, especially when you can't hold onto the bottom (activating the spin control). 2. The metal rod controlling the lid and connecting to the side of the feeder, comes out of the plastic feeder side too easily - it's a struggle inserting it back in. Eventially it might not stay connected. 3. The feeder will not stand upright on its own when recharging the battery. If it falls over when rigged to stand up, seeds will be spilled. Emptying it is a pain, because filling it after charged is a pain (again because there is no place on the bottom to hold it easily.)
All that said - I would still purchase this product again.

Birds love it and so do I
»
I have been a bird watcher and feeder for 16 years. This is the best feeder I have ever found to truly keep the squirrels out of the feeder and on the ground where they belong. It holds a lot of seed so we don't have to constantly refill it. We live in the NW where it rains a lot but the seed stays dry. And every morning the birds flock to it, mostly chickadees, finches, nuthatches, and pine siskins. We use an S hook to hang it from a tree limb, so it is easy to access. It is great!

spills seeds, not entertaining, not really worth it
»
This design has no tray to stop seeds from falling to the ground. I have watched small birds knock 5 sunflower seeds to the ground, eat one, knock 5 to the ground, eat one, etc. The squirrels are getting more seeds now from the ground than from our old feeder that they would occasionally jump to.
I have twice seen the feeder swinging wildly no doubt from a squirrel, but have never actually seen a squirrel on it, so don't expect any entertainment like shown on the video.

Very poor, expensive birdfeeder choice.
»
I recently purchased the Yankee Flipper from a local English Gardens store. First of all I'd like to say I'm an avid birder. First, this birdfeeder might be appealing to the eyes. A beautiful droll yankees, 5 pound capacity tube feeder. Then come the problems. There has been a lot of Mourning Doves, and Pigeons being able to sit on the perch ring, and they belong on the ground. They take up too much room and no other birds can feed. Squirrels can sit on it too once the battery is dead. Secondly, the very, very poor way this feeder was designed. Supposedly, "the seed flows freely to the four feeder ports." Well, it doesn't. It gets stuck in there time and time again. You have to bang on the feeder to get it to unclump and go down into the ports. Another thing about the feeder ports is that the seed gets WET and soggy. And thirdly, it was very poorly designed once again, with the choice of a battery. Come on, a battery? The battery stops working after about 2 days. What kind of bird feeder have you ever heard of that you have to recharge? And last of all, the birds don't even really seem to like it.
So, in conclusion, if you want a really good not only a Squirrel-Proof feeder but a quality working feeder also, don't buy the Yankee Flipper. Go out and buy a Squirrel Buster Plus. It's cheaper than the flipper, designed better and works better in just about every way.
